Where Are Our Organic Baobab Products Come From?
The BFCS‘s factory located in Thiès around 65 km away from Dakar has a good deal of female employees. From the administrative staff to the 2,000-2,500 harvesters, women represent 70% of the production staff and 90% of farmers.
We are proud to empower women. Not only because women in and around Thiès have shown to be reliable, punctual and well organised but as part of our commitment to the Swiss organisation, the Institute for Marketecology (IMO), a highly experienced international body for the inspection, certification and quality control of organic, eco-friendly and socially-responsible products.
IMO has been working in the field of organic certification for more than 25 years and has a strong reputation for its impactful efforts in the promotion of regional development.
Quality is essential at BFCS. It is what makes all the difference between our products and others on the market.
Wild growing iconic baobabs are by nature organic. Found all over Senegal, ancient baobabs are real historical landmarks some even predating human settlement. Their presence on the land has been permanent, and without pesticides or artificial, chemical fertilisers. Keeping the product as natural as possible is where BFCS’s 16 years of experience on the African continent comes into play.
Locals consume the dry baobab from its pulp, seeds, and powder. This type of baobab product, however, has usually been semi-processed artisanally in the villages and been potentially contaminated. Often, the provenance and safety of the product aren’t traceable because hygiene standards are not respected.
At BFCS quality is guaranteed since only whole fruits make it onto the production line. This way, it arrives in its natural protective shell which preserves the organoleptic qualities of the fruit. Our baobab fruit is processed within 24 hours of being picked.
BFCS’s organic oil and powder come from the baobabs around Thiès, and so in all likelihood, your products will have been expertly handled by the women from the four villages surrounding the processing plant.
Eager to work young women and mothers have been trained and taught hygiene rules like removing their jewellery and washing their hands which are essential to avoid contamination, and the purest organic product of the highest quality reaches our customers.
Natural products like BFCS’s raw baobab powder and oils are also certified HACCP. A method to control organic production systems and answer consumer concerns and preference. The “Hazard Analysis by Critical Control Points” (HACCP), is a standard procedure.
And on top of all that, if a problem did arise, with our system of batch traceability for every individual bag, we would be able to identify the exact location where the product comes from. So rest assured and enjoy your organic baobab products!
